Fidgetville
A Pixel Farming-simulator Game
that seeks to educate children about their medications and improve medicine adherence by transforming the act of taking medications from a chore to a positive habit.
To promote medication adherence in children with chronic illnesses between 7-18 years of age, we created Fidgetville, a pixel farm-simulator game designed to transform the boring act of taking medications into an engaging and rewarding activity, with hopes that it will promote positive habits in them and improve their adherence to medication regimes.
Some key features of Fidgetville include our unique medication reminder feature where players would be informed when its time for their next medication dose and would be able to attain points for in-game progression upon each dose completion. Dosing regimes would be tailored to their prescriptions and players may also learn more about their medications, including its potential side effects and how to manage them. Players can also personalize their in-game characters and farms, by unlocking virtual rewards by practicing good habits and complying to their medication regimes.
With the rising prevalence of ADHD within our target audience, our team decided to focus on this condition in hopes of improving their medication adherence and optimize their medical journeys.
To bring our concept to life, I performed various market research, particularly on our target audience and their affinity towards gaming. I visualized our team's missions and aims in promoting medicine adherence for our target audience using a pixel farm simulator game that is able to resonate with the needs of our target audience; offering simple, repetitive mechanics, that gives them a freedom of choice, and a focused gameplay experience. Drawing inspiration from famous pixel games like Pokémon and Stardew Valley, I crafted a storyline, tailored uniquely to our cause, and proceeded to design a prototype game utilizing free online pixel resource packages and softwares like Canva and Photoshop.
